How Jane Lost 32 Pounds, Reversed Her Pre-Diabetes, and Took Control of Her Health

When Jane (not her real name), a 49-year-old busy mom of two, came to me, she wasn’t just looking to lose weight — she was fighting for her health.

She worked from home, had a college education, and lived a “healthy-ish” life. But despite her best efforts, her labs told a different story: high cholesterol, elevated triglycerides, a hemoglobin A1C of 6.9, and a BMI in the obese range.

Her doctor had seen enough and referred her to me.

“I Know How to Eat Healthy… But Nothing’s Working”

Like many clients, Jane was overwhelmed by the conflicting nutrition advice.

“I know how to make healthy lifestyle and eating choices (really, I do!), but I want to know exactly how many calories I should take in and when. There’s so much confusing info… I need something specific to my body.”

She wasn’t alone in feeling this way. And what she really needed wasn’t more information — she needed clarity, structure, and a plan rooted in evidence.

The Turning Point: Her Health

Jane had high central adiposity (body fat around the midsection), high cholesterol, and pre-diabetes. She knew weight loss could help, but this wasn’t about fitting into smaller jeans. This was about living longer, feeling stronger, and taking control of her health before it spiraled further.

The Plan: Personalized, Measured, and Sustainable

Nutrition Strategy

We calculated her maintenance at around 2234 calories and implemented a moderate calorie deficit (~1554 average intake).

Her plan focused on:

  • 138g protein daily (1.2–2.7g/kg)
  • 30g+ fiber per day
  • 3–4 meals daily with a source of protein + fiber at each
  • Tracking intake via Cronometer
  • Following a flexible, IIFYM-style diet aligned with DASH principles

Exercise Programming

Jane followed a progressive resistance training plan 4x/week using hypertrophy-based workouts.

We also focused on:

  • 7,500–12,000 steps per day
  • Weekly Zone 2 cardio + 1–2 HIIT sessions (optional)
  • Total body strength training (stimulating each muscle group 2x/week)

Mindset & Accountability

We worked weekly via virtual check-ins and full weekly reviews. I provided:

  • Plan adjustments
  • Nutrition education
  • CBT-style coaching
  • Community support
  • Cronometer access and shared tracking
  • Encouragement rooted in positivity (no shame, no guilt)

We also worked on breaking the “all or nothing” mindset — helping her make changes that fit into her already full life.

The Results: A Complete Transformation

In just 12 weeks, Jane went from:

  • 166.2 lbs → 133.4 lbs (–32.8 lbs)
  • BMI 31.4 → 25.2 (Obese to Normal)
  • Waist: 36” → 28.5”
  • Hips: 42.5” → 34.5”

“This Time, I Did It For Me.”

She didn’t crash diet. She didn’t rely on extreme restriction. She built new habits, stuck to them, and proved to herself that she was capable of more than she thought.

“Confidence is built by following through on the promises you make to yourself.”

What You Can Learn From Jane

Jane juggled a full-time job, parenting two kids, and going through menopause. Life was busy, but she still made it happen.

She didn’t wait for the perfect time. She committed, got support, and took consistent action.

You don’t need perfect conditions. You need a clear plan, a bit of structure, and someone in your corner.
